I found it particularly interesting because I just finished "Pedaling Revolution" by Jeff Mapes. It has a lot of the national history elements that, together with the Observer article, give a "recent history" of cycling around the US. Unfortunately, the Mapes book couldn't really figure out what it was about. The Observer article was much better focused.

No, I didn't buy "Pedaling Revolution." I got it through the library and it's not the kind of cycling book I'd want to buy since once its read, it takes up shelf space.

I have a strong suspicion that the Dallas story is one that is playing out around the country. Read over at CommuteOrlando and I'm not sure it's not a whole lot different.
