One of the best features of my job – that makes it so easy to bike commute – is that they don’t mind that I use the storage room as a bike garage. It’s a good thing too, since the building doesn’t offer a proper bike rack out front. I’m okay with that, because it’s easier to keep an eye on it here.
It does get in the way, and every once in a while, I’ll here it slam to the ground. My co-workers will try to get something off the shelf, but don’t want to bother me to move it. Inevitably, it’ll get bumped and knocked over. When I rush in to check it out, they’re usually tangled up with the bike, a ream of paper and a guilty look on their face. I assure them that my bike has seen worse. After all, I ride it.
If anything, I feel guilty for having my crap in the way. We’re about to expand our space, and even though it’s too late to ask for a proper locker room and shower (the building isn’t plumbed for that), I’m thinking about asking if I can install a hook to hang it up, out of the way.
