Poles these days aren't what they used to be... mainly for the good since immovable objects usually kill humans when they are suddenly stopped... a breakaway pole saved a friend of our son a dozen years ago when this friend fell asleep at the wheel on the way home from a Berkner band competition and took out the pole at Arapaho & Yale... I'm always proud of the way that COR workers get out and fix the messes quickly... a sign of a good city! The dedication of our city workers is very commendable!

On another note we were almost hit by a motorist while we were out on the tandem this afternoon... We didn't have a stop sign at this particular intersection but the older motorist approaching from our left did, but some little neuron in my brain fired off a message that this guy didn't see us and/or wasn't about to stop... he slowed down just a tad and proceeded to run the stop sign... I hit the brakes and we jolted to a sudden stop less than a foot short of his path... The older man slammed on his brakes as well and waved us across... As we were getting our adrenalin down I yelled and pointed that he had the stop sign, to which he waved his middle finger at us and buzzed off... nice old coot! Be careful out there and don't assume that drivers see you, even when you have the right-away... And don't be dead right...

I just got on my new Monocog today and have the same problems as you, sloooooww on the flats, just way to easy to pedel like a chipmunk. Glad I found your story.!
I'm gonna try that 15 in the back, I realize it the stock gearing would be cool for hills on the trails but I like to cruise around public and I feel like a pussy going 2 miles an hour.

I think the second sign, "May use full lane" is the most useful as many drivers seem to think that even on posted bike routes that cyclist should be riding with their pedals scraping the curb.

This is a brilliant little film, highly recommended. He does (rather hazardously) leave his bike lying about unlocked in various locations for most of the film though - constant tension!

I've written a review of it if you'd like to take a look.

Well, that bottom sign may be lost in the clutter, and I certainly was looking for those signs a long time before I ever noticed one, but your photo certainly draws the eye to it. Round my parts, the only bike sign I've ever seen (except prohibitions) was at the website link. Sadly, now even it is gone. It never was sanctioned by the city in any event.
