My Commute To Work – Earth Day
I decided to ride to work on Earth Day. I know this doesn’t seem like much of an achievement for my commuter friends out there, but for me, it’s a big step.
The route is a 13 mile commute each way – not bad, but not easy during rush hour. As you may know, I’m not much of a Vehicular Cyclist, so my comfort level in busy traffic is still pretty low.
Most of Richardson is nice because all of the neighborhoods connect and riding the back roads was easy. North Dallas neighborhoods are okay and the ride was nice once I got on the Preston Ridge Trail.
Plano and Carrollton were a mess. Unfortunately, the neighborhoods (on my route) in these suburb towns are pocketed, with no connecting streets. If you want to get anywhere in these towns, you need to take the main roads. In my opinion, these roads a insane during rush hour.
Even opting for the sidewalk on these roads is a challenge since most of them aren’t complete and the intersections are a mess.
Let’s do the ride together. I’ll take a day off. It sounds to me like you are 99% of the way there.

Nice going. That’s a long commute for a “beginner”.
