Performance Bicycle Grand Opening - Midway

There’s a new bike shop in the Dallas area. I’m sure some of your are pretty familiar with the discount store, Performance Bike. There are 4 others in the Metroplex area, Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth and Southlake. Now they have a new location in Farmer’s Branch at Midway and 635 (LBJ).

We’re supporters of locally owned and operated bike shops. Although, Performance Bike would be classified as a retail chain, they still hire locally and their sales taxes go back into the local economy. Plus, they offer pretty good discounts for cyclists on a budget – especially if you buy their branded products.

Discounts come at a price. Because they are a large chain, they offer a pretty generic lineup of components and supplies. If you are looking for anything pretty specialized, you might need to check with a smaller shop. Since discounts and value are Performance’s big focus, you won’t find many high end names in their bike lineup either. Still, Performance has great quality bikes – like Fuji, Diamondback and GT – that are priced to make them more accessible for folks who want to start riding or add a second (or third) bike to their lineup.

Another thing to consider is that all of the Performance Bike stores that I have visited are staffed with really friendly and knowledgeable people. They understand that there are different types of riders out there, and make you feel comfortable to ask even the most rookie questions. This alone is what really keeps me coming back. Saving a few bucks doesn’t hurt either.

  1. I imagine that some would castigate Performance just as many do not like WalMart. In both cases, however, the biggie is filling an unmet niche.

  2. I wish they had one down here in the Rio Grande Valley. But, the local bike shops are growing in numbers, so that’s a good plus. On a another note, we are getting a Bass Pro Shops here 🙂
