It’s pretty common to see possum, small birds, squirrels and even small rabbits around my hood. Since the area is a bit older and the trees are more established, nature is making its way back. With the exception of the occasional squirrel that falls into my chimney (still trying to find that opening), we welcome the migration.

Of course, when you have an abundance of small critters scampering around your yards, nature has a way of bringing in things that like to eat them. I’ve seen a few hawks and owls flying overhead at a great distance, looking for a nice meal – but never this close.

This hawk hung out on a pretty low branch for about five minutes – until a swarm of smaller birds chased him off.

This is exactly why I enjoy riding my bike around my neighborhood. You miss this when you’re boxed in your car. Granted, if the coyotes and bobcats ever start to migrate back, the car doesn’t seem like such a bad idea.
