Bike Nation – Life Is GOOD On A Bike

with 3 comments

Once again  GOOD Magazine is doing a series for bicycling. This year, it’s called Bike Nation. Unlike last year’s Guide To Biking, this series is not collection of helpful tips, but rather a nice curation of their posts that address the topic for bicycling. Some of their notable articles are What Drivers Really Think About Bikers: The History and Psychology of Sharing the Road, GOOD Video: Don’t Be a Douchebag! 45 Seconds to a Calmer Commute and If You Build Bike Lanes, They Will Ride. Overall, GOOD Magazine’s Bike Nation is a good read, with some interesting perspectives on bicycle advocacy.

This series is sponsored by Clif Bar’s 2 Mile Challenge.

The GOOD Guide To Biking For The Planet

If you aren’t following the GOOD Magazine blog, you should start. They post tons of great information about good things for our planet.

From their Facebook Page:

GOOD is the global association of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits powering what works.

We are people, businesses, moms, kids, artists, organizations, policymakers, students, teachers, and engineers, all united in one simple idea, each elevated by being connected. Let’s do what works and never default to what doesn’t. more.

They’ve just introduced a new section to their site called The Good Guide To Biking For The Planet. This feature is crammed full of useful information, including stuff on how cycling helps the environment, riding techniques, busting bike myths, and how to gear yourself. The also have some info on advocacy as well as links to some helpful organizations. Yep, some of the information is stuff a true advocate, enthusiast or even a seasoned commuter might already know. It’s still a nice collection of good information that’s all in one, well designed place. Something that I will refer to quite often.

Of course, there is motive for pulling together all this content. The Guide is sponsored by Cliff Bar  who is also putting on a fun promotion called the 2Mile Challenge. They are “out to collectively avoid 100,000 car trips, and give $100,000 to nonprofits along the way.” Their ultimate goal is to reduce the amount of short (less than 2 miles) trips by car and give the donation to one of three nonprofit organizations: Alliance For Biking and Walking, Safe Routes To School National Partnership or If you support any of these organizations, please sign up, choose a team and get riding.
