Grand Opening Of Performance Bike – Midway at 635

Performance Bicycle Grand Opening - Midway

There’s a new bike shop in the Dallas area. I’m sure some of your are pretty familiar with the discount store, Performance Bike. There are 4 others in the Metroplex area, Dallas, Plano, Fort Worth and Southlake. Now they have a new location in Farmer’s Branch at Midway and 635 (LBJ).

We’re supporters of locally owned and operated bike shops. Although, Performance Bike would be classified as a retail chain, they still hire locally and their sales taxes go back into the local economy. Plus, they offer pretty good discounts for cyclists on a budget – especially if you buy their branded products.

Discounts come at a price. Because they are a large chain, they offer a pretty generic lineup of components and supplies. If you are looking for anything pretty specialized, you might need to check with a smaller shop. Since discounts and value are Performance’s big focus, you won’t find many high end names in their bike lineup either. Still, Performance has great quality bikes – like Fuji, Diamondback and GT – that are priced to make them more accessible for folks who want to start riding or add a second (or third) bike to their lineup.

Another thing to consider is that all of the Performance Bike stores that I have visited are staffed with really friendly and knowledgeable people. They understand that there are different types of riders out there, and make you feel comfortable to ask even the most rookie questions. This alone is what really keeps me coming back. Saving a few bucks doesn’t hurt either.

Switching Gears Cyclery OPEN

We popped over to Switching Gears Cyclery yesterday, to check out their grand opening party. We missed some of the earlier events, including the Dale’s Dash alleycat, but we were able to catch some of Sea Lion (a really awesome local band), check out the new store, and see some really great people.

Of course, with any bike store grand opening, there we lots of bikes to see.

Click here to check out our other pics from the event.

Transit Bicycle Company – Grand Opening September 13

Pedallas, one of the coolest bike blogs in the Metroplex, seems to have their finger on the pulse of all cool bike happenings in Dallas. They’re definitely a site that I’ll be watching.

Today, they posted about the Grand Opening of a new bike shop in Dallas called Transit Bicycle Company. If you’re free on Sunday, September 13 between noon and sunset, come check it out at 3839 McKinney Avenue.

BTW, This is the same address as the West Village Bicycle Company. One can only guess that this is perhaps a rebranded take on an already, really cool bike shop. I couldn’t imagine two shops at the same address.

I’ll need to see if I can drag the family to ANOTHER bike shop this weekend to check it out. LOL!

I’m hoping the shop caters more to the urban cyclist, rather than the road and mountain bike guys. Don’t get me wrong – all cyclists are awesome. I just think that there are plenty of shops around for those guys.
